Overall, I still like Strat's but the new 305 is a new take on a old classic design and I found that I loved the tones I could get from it. The set neck probably is a big factor in the difference. But the question is does the 305 sound just like my stat? Well, no, it seems to have it's own sound, definitely a single coil on a alder body tone but there is more sustain and a fuller freq. Pickups: PRS 305 Single Coils Bridge Type: PRS Trem Tuners: PRS Locking Finish Type: PRS V-12 Other Special Features: Wooden pick guard & back plate. The 305 was lighter than my American Std. response than my strat, the 305 pickups were quieter (regarding hum), the 305 pickups have a "bigger sound" or are ballsier than the strat pickups, the 305's tremolo stayed in tune perfectly which my strat never quite does. First, the 305 has a wider range of sounds and freq. This guitar's warm clear bite offers single coil tones unlike any. Other features include an alder body, maple neck, banded melon '513' bird inlays and 25 1/2-inch scale length. I took my favorite Fender Strat down to the store to do a side by side comparision using the same amp that I gig with and a couple of pedals (EP Boost & MXR Classic Distortion).
